During the spring semester of second year, we focused on sectional strategies outlined in The Manual of Section. After analyzing a precedent project, Aranya Art Center by Neri&Hu, we visited the Seattle Chinatown-International District, where our semester project was based. Learning about the cultural history of the neighborhood and greater Seattle helped me better understand the community’s needs. A visit to the Chihuly Museum, where ironwork was juxtaposed with glass, inspired my vision for a community space that pushes the boundaries of traditional design. I aimed to create a strong visual and spatial connection between the building's interior and the surrounding neighborhood through a striking facade with a unique experience.
